Lynwood, Washington is located just 16 miles north of Seattle and is part of the latter's metropolitan area. Although it is considered a suburb, it is a huge city. In fact, it is the fourth largest city in Snohomish County, with 36,485 people during the 2010 census. Many of Lynwood's residents commute to work in the nearby cities like Everett, Bellevue, and Seattle.

The area was inhabited by the Snohomish Native American tribe. They left the area to settle in what is now called Marysville in 1855. Americans began coming to settle in the area during the 1880s. Duncan Hunter, who was born in Scotland, claimed an 80-acre piece of land. This later became the site for Lynnwood's Pioneer Park. More and more people from other states came to reside in the area. Eventually, a schoolhouse was constructed in 1895.

When the 20th century rolled in, the area saw a rise in mills and private companies. The planned community of Alderwood Manor grew and it now uses the Lynnwood address for posts. In 1937, a realtor named Karl O'Brien filed a map that showed the division of land in the area and of his new development, which he called "Lynnwood" after his wife, Lynn. The businesses in the surrounding area later on used the Lynnwood name and address for their shops.

The town's first post office was constructed in 1948. Less than a decade later, residents were lobbying to incorporate Lynnwood. The first time didn't go so well, but the second time, in 1959, yielded a positive result. The town was officially registered. Lynnwood's first mayor was a realtor named Jack Bennett. Now, Lynnwood is considered a small-town city, with the excitement of a metropolis but without the noise and heavy traffic.

Lynnwood's Heritage Park on 19221 Poplar Way is a great place that combines relaxation, recreation, and the chance to learn about the city's early days back when the only community in the area was Alderwood Manor. The park is also home to the Wickers Building, whose second floor belongs to the Wickers Museum. Here, you'll find replicas of rooms in a typical house in Alderwood Manor. You'll also see vintage photos of the early days of the community, the first general merchandise store, and the iconic post office that further led to Lynnwood's economic advancement.

Lynndale Park on 18927 72nd Avenue is the city's largest park is 22 acres of beauty and fun. It contains an amphitheater, a skate park, sports fields, walking trails, and more. Aside from being able to play basketball, baseball, soccer, and tennis, you can also watch actors doing Shakespeare in the Park during the summer. There's a forested area perfect for people who want to go jogging or walking among the shade of tall green trees.

Meadowdale Playfields sounds like a mouthful, but it's certainly a popular park located on 16700 66th Avenue. It has a basketball court, as well as some picnic facilities, playground equipment, and fields for sports and other games. The park also has a 0.67-mile trail that's popular among health-conscious residents. Speaking of jogging and hiking paths, the Interurban Trail runs through the city in all its four-mile glory. The full length of the trail is 24 miles long and runs from Everett to Seattle. It follows the route that the Interurban Trolley used during the early 1900s.

For a different change of scenery, you can drop by the Scriber Lake Park on 5332 198th Street. Its most stunning feature is, of course, Scriber Lake. It's a serene body of water where you can find some fish and waterfowl during the warmer times of the year. The floating boardwalk also offers visitors the chance to take a stroll along the lake and see different mammals and songbirds in the trees and on the ground. If you want more time for a leisurely walk, the Scriber Creek Trail bridges the lake park, the Sprague's Pond Mini Park, Scriber Creek Park, and the Interurban Trail.

The lake and creek aren't the only place where visitors can cool off. Lynnwood has several spray parks in the area where kids and adults can enjoy water features and splash pads. There's one at the North Lynnwood Park and another at Daleway Park. Finally, visitors can also drop by Wilcox Park, which is fondly known as Flag Park because this is where you will find 27 historic United States flags at the main entrance. The park also has a playground, a basketball court, a gazebo, picnic ramadas, and more.

Aside from Lynnwood's parks, the city's cultural centers also offer visitors a unique experience. The Hibulb Cultural Center houses exhibits that depict the history and culture of the Tulalip people. The Experience Music Project is a museum for rock n roll.
